Yesterday (Thursday) I popped into the RNLI Station to see Rod and Cal and have a quick cuppa… only to find that they had a plumber there fixing their water supply…
I did get my cuppa – and a lesson on how to replace the washer on the faulty tap in the kitchen at the Seafarers Centre – very simple apparently! Let’s hope I don’t flood the basement when I try to do the “small job!”
The centre had a rather unusual gift – from the funeral of a retired seafarer. This was very kindly donated and looks splendid at our reception desk. Several seafarers have already commented how lovely it was.
Today I collected more large bin bags full of Woolly hats – 7 of them – enough to fill my rather large boot!! A very special thanks to all the ladies of St Ninian’s Episcopal Church, King Street, Aberdeen.
I also spent 2+ hours with an old seafaring friend, an ex Royal Marine who is returning to work on the Caledonian Vanguard! It was good to catch up and to encourage one another. He left Vector vessels a number of years ago and had not been in the Seafarers Centre before!
The weekend looms and I have a visit to a vessel lined up tomorrow were their excess dry foodstuffs I will be ‘recycling’ for them to local food initiatives.
