…what you get in a collection box!
Yes, I have numerous collection boxes out in various places ranging from pubs to offices, but mostly on vessels that regularly visit aberdeen.
One vessel, which is no longer working out of aberdeen, managed to return their box to me and on opening…
I discovered amongst the many coins, two washers, a screw, a nut, a paper clip and a sewing needle!
Nice to see that the engineers are contributing to the upkeep of the Seafarers Centre!! (only kidding boys!)
It reminds me of the time when I was pastoring my first Church and I had been doing a series on the Biblical principle of Tithing. On the second Sunday we had our offering which was collected in open plates. The ushers brought the plates to me and I normally prayed for the offering. However, on this occasion I noticed a polo mint in the plate so with my sense of humour I prayed with thanks for the tithes and offerings brought before us and especially asked a blessing on the individual who took last weeks sermon to give a tenth of everything to the Lord and put in his tenth of the packet of polo mints!
There were a few chuckles from the congregation, however after the service I was taken aside and chastised by the deacons for being disrespectful in my prayers!
Ah well, you can please some of the people some of the time, but you cannot please all of the people all of the time!
If anyone would like a collection box for their office or ship, do get in touch with me via the contact page. I would be more than happy to receive them.
